① half asleep and half awake : 잠이 덜 깨서 얼떨떨한

Ivy looked like being half asleep and half awake in the morning session.

(아침 회의 시간에 아이븨는 잠이 덜 깨서 얼떨떨해 하는 것처럼 보였어.)

 

② hard up for money : (돈에) 쪼들리다(=be pressed for money)

I'm sorry not to buy you the toy, son. We are hard up for money.

(얘야, 그 장난감을 못 사줘서 미안하구나. 우리가 돈에 쪼들려서 말야.)

 

③ hit the road : (여행을) 시작하다, 떠나다(=set out, start to leave for)

We have a long way to go. Let's hit the road.(우린 갈 길이 멀어. 자, 출발하지.)

 

④ If the weather holds : 이렇게 좋은 날씨가 계속된다면

I think If the weather holds I will go fishing with my family this weekend.

(이렇게 좋은 날씨가 계속된다면, 난 가족들과 함께 이번 주말에 낚시를 갈 거야.)

 

⑤ in the wink of an eye : 눈 깜짝할 사이에

While reading a book in the train I had my wallet lifted in the wink of an eye.

(기차에서 책을 읽고 있는 동안 난 눈 깜짝할 사이에 지갑을 도둑맞았어.)

⑥ jet lag : 시차 부적응(=jet time lag)

I got back from America a couple of weeks ago. I have recovered jet lag now.

⑦ job hopper : 직업을 자주 바꾸는 사람(=rolling stone)

The boss's hesitating to hire him. It occurs to his mind he might be a job hopper.

⑧ know A inside out : A를 속속들이 다 알다(=have A at my finger's end)

When it comes to Bernard I know him inside out.

⑨ keep A hanging : (할 이야기를 하지 않고) 애를 태우다

He began to talk to me about the matter after keeping me hanging long.
